CONTENT WARNING - by Lydia Pourmand
A 4-minute immersive visual piece: Content Warning engages in contemporary discourse around digital technologies, spaces, and objects by exploring the pervasive and often disorienting influence of digital media on our perception of reality. It reflects on how technology shapes our interactions with the world and each other, creating immersive environments that challenge our understanding of what is real and what is mediated.
The artwork was created using a mix of 3D and 2D motion design and a sprinkle of AI to achieve a dreamy yet realistic aesthetic. Technical skills demonstrated include advanced projection mapping, 3D modeling, animation, and AI integration. These skills are showcased in the seamless interaction between the imagery and the physical space, creating an immersive experience that bends and manipulates the viewer's sense of reality.
The aesthetic form of Content Warning—dreamy, realistic, yet lo-fi—aligns with the artist's intention to create an abstract representation of the overwhelming and cyclical nature of digital media consumption. The piece is designed to snap viewers awake, take them on a surreal journey, and then calm them, mirroring the emotional rollercoaster of interacting with digital content.
Through Content Warning, the artist aims to communicate the impact of digital media news cycles on our mental and emotional states. The work invites viewers to reflect on their own experiences with digital content, emphasizing the disorienting and cyclical nature of modern media consumption and its effect on our perception of reality. The piece is intentionally discomforting, validating the unsettling nature of the contemporary digital world.
